Trojan girls open playoffs with win

Lead Summary

Although co-coaches Carla Nymeyer and Dan Stepan made all kinds of decisions during Turkey Valley’s regional opener, the best call may have come before the Lady Trojans took the court against Riceville.
Early in the day the decision was made to move the starting time up to 5:30. At 7 p.m., the original tip-off time, the game was over, the gym was clearing out and fans were making their way into accumulating snow.
The TV girls did start out a bit slowly in their 55-43 win over the Wildcats, but the Trojans’ Kassidy Reicks didn’t think the time change affected her team.
“It was a little odd to play at that time, but playoff games kind have a different feel to begin with,” said Reicks. “We started out slowly, we just couldn’t seem to get the hang of it, but we figured it out. We played really well the first time we played them, but this one was a little rough.”
The first win, which came January 27, was by a 20-point margin, one in which Turkey Valley raced to an 18-7 first-quarter lead. Thursday, however, the score was tied 5-5 after the opening period.
