Richard Lee Venem, age 89 of Jesup, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m.  on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church, Jesup, with Rev. John C. White officiating.  
Military rites will be conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post No. 342 of Jesup.  
Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2018, at the Graceland Cemetery, New Hampton.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Jesup or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Richard was born June 8, 1928, at New Hampton, the son of John R. Venem and Anna (Lewis) Venem.  
He graduated from New Hampton High School with the class of 1946.  
He then entered the United States Navy and served from 1946 to 1951.  
On Jan. 31, 1951, he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Schuchhardt at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton.  
Richard worked 30-plus years as a meat cutter at Rath Packing in Waterloo.  
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jesup and was a charter member of the Jesup Golf and Country Club.  
He was involved with the Jesup Little League program for several years as a coach and played adult league softball for Rath Packing.
Richard is survived by his wife, Betty of Jesup; one daughter, Linda (Larry) Schmit of Jesup; three sons, Wayne (Sue) Venem of Jesup, Roger (Lesa) Venem of New Hampton and Robert (Joan) Venem of Jesup; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grand-children.  
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard E. Venem; one great-grand-daughter, Addisyn Menuey; one half-sister, Irene Petterson; and three half-brothers, Adrian Venem, Eugene Venem and Alton “Tony” Venem.
