McDonald pitches Hawkeyes to win

Lead Summary

Iowa needed a strong pitching performance, and Cole McDonald delivered one.
The junior from New Hampton scattered three hits over seven innings of work to pick up his first victory of the season in Iowa’s 8-2 win over New Orleans in the All-State Sugar Baseball Classic.
The Iowa win came the day after Ball State hammered five Hawkeye pitchers for 14 hits and 14 runs to hand the Hawkeyes their first defeat of the season.
“This was a great bounce back for us after last night,” said Iowa coach Rich Heller after his team improved to 5-1. “Cole McDonald was outstanding and we played great defense behind him.”
