Not a bad Plan B

Lead Summary

Kacey Olson knows sooner or later she’s going to need to get a bunt down.
Her coach, though, said if her senior second baseman wants to keep hitting home runs after failing to execute a successful bunt, she’s fine with that.
“Sure, she makes me look stupid — the coach who has the home run hitter bunting,” New Hampton coach Lisa Rude said after Olson’s two-run home run, her second in three games, helped
New Hampton to a 5-2 win over Waverly-Shell Rock. “Honestly, Kacey has been a surprise, a very nice one. She’s seeing the ball real well, that’s probably the best way to put it.”
Olson’s homer was the highlight of a 2-2 week in which New Hampton’s offense rebounded after scoring one run in a loss to Charles City Monday night.
After beating Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, New Hampton topped Waukon 13-7 on Wednesday and ended the week with an eight-run game against Oelwein. Unfortunately, the Huskies ripped 13 hits in a 9-8 eight-inning win to drop New Hampton to 5-4.
