Bill was born February 5, 1919, the son of Will and Emma (Gerhardt) Wahl in rural Jacksonville Township, Chickasaw County.
He was baptized in October 1919 by Reverend Baumgartner in Alta Vista Methodist Church.
Bill attended country school through eighth grade in southern Dayton Township. He played trombone in the high school band, and was a 1938 graduate of New Hampton High School.
After graduating, Bill began his farming career on the family farm and was employed at Oliver Corporation for a number of years.
He continued farming and operated a livestock trucking business until he retired. In retirement, he enjoyed gardening, and his chickens. He was fondly remembered for baking cookies, bread and cooking complete meals.
He loved to play Euchre with his friends at the Hide-A-way Lounge in Ionia. He spent most evenings playing Solitaire at home. Bill remained on his farm until he moved to New Hampton Nursing and Rehab in 2012.
He was active in playing Bingo and cards at the nursing home. Bill was a true historian, remembering places (including the tile lines on his farm), people, dates, and events right up until his final day of life. He was a joy to his family and friends and never complained
Bill is survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Wilma “Clara” Maklenburg, Willetta Hilgendorf, and Winelda Lane; and brother, Wendell Wahl.
