One game short

Lead Summary

Pure heartbreak.
A group of New Hampton senior softball players huddled together, shed tears and shared hugs with each other after playing the final game of their Chickasaw careers.
“Right now, it obviously sucks. We’ve been playing since we were in seventh grade if not younger,” Sadie Tenge said. “It just hurts to know that we’re officially done with high school, and we won’t be able to play with each other again.”
The Chickasaws fell to Waterloo Columbus Catholic 4-1 in the regional final on Monday night in Waterloo. They finished just one win short of qualifying for the state tournament in Fort Dodge.
“We were pretty confident. We felt like we could win the ball game,” coach Jack Seelhammer said. “Give Columbus a lot of credit. They’re a good team. They got a real good program. Their head coach is a class act. I wish them a lot of luck down at state.”
