Rallying for a split

Soreness never felt so good for Nashua-Plainfield football player Nathan Dettmer and his teammates.  “I’m moving a little slow today,” Dettmer said Tuesday afternoon, “but  beating North Butler, trust me, it’s worth it.”  Three days after suffering a disappointing 28-14 homecoming loss to West Fork, the undermanned and banged-up Huskies bounced back with a come-from-behind 30-28 victory over the Bearcats.  “I think it says a lot about my guys that we’re missing four starters, we fall behind but they found a way to dig themselves out of the hole,” Nashua-Plainfield coach Chase Sudol said. “I couldn’t be prouder of them. That was gut-check win, period.”  It didn’t look good, though, early Monday night in a game that was originally was scheduled to be played Sept. 23 but was called off when Greene was hit especially hard by flooding. The Bearcats built a 20-6 lead early in the second quarter, and even after the Huskies scored twice to cut the deficit to 20-18, North Butler used an 82-yard kickoff return and two-point conversion to take a 28-18 lead into halftime.  “We weren’t too happy,” said Nashua-Plainfield’s Mason Hyde, who finished with 105 rushing yards on 20 carries.  For the full story, please see the Oct. 6 Reporter.
