Raymond W. Myers dies at 81

Raymond W. Myers, age 81, of Ridgeway, died Mar. 8, 2017 of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease on the family farm.  He was united in marriage to Gladys Kuennen in 1957 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler.  They purchased their first farm in rural Ridgeway in 1958.  Ray's passion in life was farming and to continue farming as long as possible. He celebrated his final harvest this past fall at age 80. He is survived by his wife Gladys of 59 years, four daughters and their spouses: Eileen (Bob) Youds of Maple Grove, Minn; Paula (Randy) Kleve of Ridgeway; Sharon (Dr. Craig) Chambers of Rochester, Minn; and Jane Myers (Jeff Zinsmaster) of Rochester, Minn; 11 grandchildren: Brooke (Matt) Murphy of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Ben (Emily) Youds of Leksand, Sweden; Laura (Tom) Schmauss of Ridgeway; Ryan (Cathy) Kleve of Maple Grove, Minn; Mikkel (Sarah) Chambers of St. Paul, Minn; Rachel Chambers of Bemidji, Minn; Stephanie (Daniel) Chambers-Baltz of St. Paul, Minn;  Ashley (Dana) Kinsella of North St. Paul, Minn; Nick Schultz of Pine Island, Minn; Zach (Nicki) Zinsmaster of Rochester, Minn; and Danielle Zinsmaster of Grand Forks, N.D.; five great grandsons: Mitchell and Carter Schmauss of Ridgeway; Apollo Schultz of Pine Island, Minn; Gavin and Graham Murphy of Sioux Falls, S.D. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 11, 2017, at Notre Dame Parish in Cresco.  Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Mar.ch 10, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the time of service Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mayo Clinic ALS Research or the Crestwood Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter.
