Robert Leo "Saude" Smith age 81 of New Hampton, formerly of Lawler, died Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler, with Rev. Kyle Digmann celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the church cemetery.Friends may greet the family 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler where there will be a 7:30 p.m. Parish Scripture Service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Wednesday.  Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home in Lawler is entrusted with arrangements.   Online condolences for Saude's family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.comRobert Leo “Saude” Smith was born June 25, 1935 at the New Hampton Hospital in New Hampton. He attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic School in Lawler and graduated from Lawler High School in 1953. After high school he attended Loras College in Dubuque before coming back to Lawler to help his father on the family farm. Saude also worked at the Coop in Lawler. He married the love of his life, Patricia Seery on August 29, 1970 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Hampton. To this union four children were born. Saude was a seed corn and feed salesman for several companies for many years.Saudes family was his number one priority. He was truly a loyal friend who was always there to help people. He heavily supported all Turkey Valley Booster Events especially his children’s sporting events, along with the Wartburg College Baseball team. Volunteering was something that was very important to Saude. His faith was extremely important; and he was an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Lawler where he often volunteered.He is survived by one daughter, Kelliann Stoler of Oelwein; three sons, Jon (Angie) Smith of Iowa City, Tom (Alicia) Smith of Lakeville, Minn. and Patrick (Jamie) Smith of Dike, eleven grandchildren, Christian Stoler, Addy Smith, Egan Smith, Eviann Smith, Kenley Smith, Paisley Smith, Caffrey Smith, Seeri Smith, Jaelyn Smith, Linden Smith, Myah Smith; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Kramer of Solon, IA and Mercedes (John) Petersen of California.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Patricia, on November 1, 1996; one brother, John Thomas in infancy; one brother-in-law, Cliff Kramer; one sister-in-law, Betty (Mike) Baum.
