Running to state

Lead Summary

For the second straight year, New Hampton will send a runner to the state cross country meet, which will be held this weekend in Fort Dodge.    Nolan Usher finished 13th in a field of 93 runners in the varsity-only state qualifying meet held Thursday at Garner, as the top-15 runners advanced to state.    That was one Usher short of what Chickasaw fans would have liked to see advance, as Jake Usher will attend the state meet as a spectator only. He finished under 18 minutes, but so did the 17 runners ahead of him.    As a team, the Chickasaws also had an impressive finish. Only the top-three teams advance, and while New Hampton wasn’t one of the three, they did finish fifth in the 14-team field.    The girls were 10th in a 12-team field, led by Olivia Burke in 21st place, while Hannah Heit came in 26th.
