Ruth M. Weiglein, age 91, of Ionia, passed away on Sunday, Mar. 5, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 8, 2017 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Ionia, with Father Brian Dellaert celebrating.  Burial will be held in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery at Ionia with Cory Phillips, Marshall Phillips, Kate Shoemaker, Zac Weiglein, Tad Weiglein and Josh Shoemaker serving as casket bearers.Visitation will be held  from 10:00-11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Ionia, IA.  Online condolences for Ruth’s family may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com.  Memorials may be directed to the family.Ruth Mary Weiglein was born on April 15, 1925 to Alex and Anna (Jacobs) Diederich on a farm near Ionia.  She attended and graduated from St. Boniface Catholic School in Ionia in 1942.  Ruth then worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in New Hampton.  She was united in marriage to Frank Weiglein on April 29, 1946 in Southern Pines, NC.  The couple made their home in Waterloo where she was employed at Rath Packing Plant.  Later they moved to Ionia where Ruth and Frank owned Weiglein’s Tavern for 15 years.  She worked at the Uptown Café in Charles City for several years.  She later was a dispatcher at the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office until she retired.  Ruth enjoyed playing and working bingo, cooking, and volunteering at church.  She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren and receiving phone calls from family and visits from friends especially her dearest friend.  She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.Ruth is survived by her children Bob (Cyndy) Weiglein of Hiawatha, and Terry (Tim) Phillips of Ionia; grandchildren Cory (Erin) Phillips, Kate (Josh) Shoemaker, Marshall (Lindsey) Phillips, Zac (Jacki) Weiglein and Tad (Laura) Weiglein; nine great grandchildren; and brother Alex (Iona) Diederich Jr of Hiawatha.She was preceded in death by her parents Alex and Anna Diederich; husband Frank in 1982; sisters Ellen Laures, Rosemary Reuter, and Betty Basche; brothers Pete and Paul.
