School Board welcomes its student representative

Lead Summary

New Hampton’s newest School Board member may not be old enough to vote, but he’s got plenty of ideas when it comes to serving on the board. In a quick meeting Monday night, board members unanimously voted to appoint high school junior Jordan Holthaus to the board as its student representative.Holthaus will replace Samantha Reicks, who graduated in May.“I’m really excited about it,” Holthaus said, “and I think it’s great that you want students to have a voice on the board.”Although Holthaus was the lone applicant for the position, board members were impressed with his application.“I loved your enthusiasm and I know you’re going to be a great addition to our board,” Damian Baltes said. “I think this — giving students a voice — is one of the best things we’ve done in recent years on our board.”As the student representative, Holthaus can’t vote on resolutions and motions, but he can join in discussion and board members often will call on him to discuss issues students are facing. For the complete story see the 8/19/2016 New Hampton Tribune.
