The battling ‘9’ Huskies

Ask Levi Miller what he loves about his Nashua-Plainfield baseball team and the answer comes quickly.“They get knocked down, get up, dust themselves off and go back to work,” Miller said, “and that’s what, in the end, is going to make us a really good baseball team.”Take the last four games, for example. After suffering losses to Northwood-Kensett and Janesville last week, the Huskies came back and gave Class 1A top-ranked and defending state champion Mason City Newman everything it could handle before falling 12-9 on Friday night. And after suffering that heartbreaking defeat, what did the Huskies do? They dusted themselves off and beat a top-notch Central Springs team 2-1 on Monday.“How easy would it have been for our guys to pout and throw in the towel after the Northwood and Janesville games? But that’s not how we’re going to operate around here.”Instead, the Huskies rallied from an 8-3 deficit against the Knights, whose only losses have been to Class 4A and 3A teams, with a six-run sixth inning to take a 9-8 lead. For the full story, please see the June 23 Reporter.
