New Hampton’s Ryan Anderson lines up a putt during the Class 2A state tournament that was played last Thursday at Marshalltown’s American Legion Golf Course.

Couple of ‘short’ sixths

Anderson gets top-10 finish at rain-shortened state meet

After finishing sixth at state two years ago, the New Hampton boys’ golf team duplicated this performance at the Class 2A State Golf Tournament at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.

The Chickasaws totaled a score of 325 after the first day of the meet. They sat just four strokes behind fourth place Panorama, and they were looking forward to trying to pass them, along with fifth place Williamsburg in the team standings on the final round.

However, the weather had other plans, as thunderstorms in the area throughout the night and into the morning caused play on Friday to be cancelled, meaning the results from Thursday were also the final totals.
