Huskies bid farewell to talented seniors after regional semifinal loss to Lake Mills

Volleyball in this part of the state can be a cruel sport.

Just ask the Nashua-Plainfield volleyball team, which had to bid farewell to a brilliant senior class last Friday night.

The careers of Briley Fisher, Dallas Weiss, Aubry Bienemann, Samantha Hyde, Jordan Birkholz, Mekenna Weiss, Molly Fisher and Kaylee Eggers came to an end in Nashua-Plainfield’s 25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 25-11 loss to seventh-ranked Lake Mills in the Class 2A regional semifinals.

That’s at least two matches sooner than Jill Smith and her Huskies wanted, but it would be a shame if this group of Nashua-Plainfield’s seniors were remembered only for that final match.

Not that Huskies played poorly; after all, they gave the Bulldogs, who improved to 40-1 with the four-set victory, all they could handle, especially in the first three sets of the match.

The Huskies got big nights from a senior quartet that has given Nashua-Plainfield so many great memories in the last four years.

Fisher had 21 kills. Weiss had 13 kills and 16 digs. Bienemann dished out 31 assists and had 14 digs. Hyde was her usual steady self with 10 digs and a perfect 9-for-9 serving night.
