Former New Hampton High School and current University of Iowa baseball player Cole McDonald will join his Hawkeye teammates in representing the United States at the World University Games that begin next week in Taiwan.

More than a Hawkeye

McDonald, Iowa teammates to represent USA in international competition

Cole McDonald will be the first to admit that he’s been presented some once-in-a-lifetime opportunities because he’s a member of the University of Iowa baseball team.
He got a chance to travel to the Dominican Republic last November. He was on a team that won its first-ever Big Ten tournament title in May.
And he’s currently in Taipei, Taiwan, where the Hawkeyes are serving as Team USA’s representative in the World University Games.
“I know I’ve been really lucky and fortunate to get to do some of the things I’ve gotten to do,” McDonald said earlier this week before the Hawkeyes departed on a 14-hour flight to Asia. “I’m really thankful for this trip. It’s a chance to see another part of the world and meet people from everywhere, too.”
The World University Games are held every other year and athletes from more than 170 countries are expected to compete in the games that kick off their 12-day run Saturday.
