Josh Fenske, shown pressuring a quarterback last fall, committed to Southern Illinois this week.

New Hampton senior commits to the Salukis

Josh Fenske visited the Southern Illinois University last month and came away impressed.
“I liked the campus. It’s beautiful. I liked the coaches and I felt like it was a good place for me,” he said. “The coaching staff was a key part. ... They have guys who know football and you can look up to, and coach [Nick] Hill is turning things around.”
In other words, the New Hampton senior saw what he needed to see, and on Wednesday, Fenske made a verbal commitment to attend the FCS school that plays in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Salukis are coming off a 4-7 season in their first season under Hill, who quarterbacked Southern Illinois to the FCS semifinals as a senior in 2007.
“I’m excited for Josh,” New Hampton coach Scott Frerichs said. “He is a great competitor and they’re getting a kid who knows how to work hard.”
