N-P girls win Panther Invitational; Dietz takes second in boys race

Two days after running on their home course — one of the toughest cross country layouts in the state — the Nashua-Plainfield girls cross country team one-upped itself.
The Huskies, despite not running at full strength, claimed the team title at the Central Springs Panther Invitational on Thursday. And they beat two ranked teams — Mason City Newman and Eagle Grove — in the process.
“I wouldn’t say I’m surprised,” Nashua-Plainfield coach Jenn Kalainoff said, “but I am impressed. Our meet isn’t easy, You saw the hills we have, but here we were, two days later, running unbelievably.”
And it wasn’t as if the boys had a bad night, either, as Nashua-Plainfield got a strong runner-up finish from Brock Dietz on its way to a fifth-place team finish in the 10-team field.
Add it all up, and here’s what you have” October could be a fun month for the Huskies when it comes to cross country.
