The New Hampton trapshooting team certainly lived up to the saying on the back of Tanner Lane’s shirt as the Chickasaw trapshooters finished second at the state tourney last weekend.

New Hampton comes on strong to take second at state

After the first day of the state trapshooting meet Friday, Anna Holschlag still hadn’t realized a season goal of hers.
That goal? Shoot 50 consecutive targets.
Holschlag finished the Friday event with a 22, a 23 and a pair of 24s, but, like many of her teammates, Saturday was a much better day, one in which she started with — you guessed it — 50 in a row.
“I think the wind affected my score tonight,” said Holschlag Friday. “It caused the hard rights to dive and the straightaways to go high.”
While their performance on Friday left a little to be desired, the New Hampton shooters made up for it Saturday. It was an exclamation mark on a season that was already an award-winner.
The Chickasaws took home several team trophies, including the state team runner-up. But it took a little rebounding after their Friday score of 468 landed them in eighth place.
“They were down in the dumps after Friday,” New Hampton coach coach Chuck Stanton explained. “Zach Heying came up to me and said, ‘Well, I guess we blew that.’
“I told them we’re in this thing, everyone’s reachable and man, did they come back and go for it.”
On Saturday the Chickasaws hit 494 out of 500 targets, shattering the school record and topping the best score from any Friday team by six hits.
