Third time isn’t the charm

Lead Summary

There was a brief stretch — spanning the last minute of the first half and the first couple of the second — when New Hampton appeared like it was going to climb back into Friday night’s game against Waukon.
Trailing 18-0 late in the second quarter, the Chickasaws came up with a big defensive stop in the red zone and then opened the third quarter with a solid march down the field and got on the board with a Tristan Sweitzer 4-yard touchdown run and a Wyatt Stochl-to-Max Babcock two-point conversion pass.
All of a sudden, it was 18-8, and when Waukon was flagged for a block-in-the-back penalty on the ensuing kickoff, the Chickasaws had the Indians deep in a hole at the 6-yard-line.
And just like that, the momentum dissipated when the Indians’ Creed Welch hit Dawson Baures on an 82-yard touchdown pass and Waukon ran away to a 46-21 win to keep New Hampton winless on the season.
