Lead Summary

To promote healthy eating and a healthy community, Kathy Babcock, Jolene Rosonke and Jordan Anderson have banded together to be advocates for a healthy lifestyle in Chickasaw County. The committee began when a Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness grant was awarded to the three women to help them improve their community.Kathy Babcock, the Chickasaw County Public Health administrator, said some of the goals of the group are to promote healthy eating and exercise in the community as well as hope to work with the school to get them to commit to spend money on locally grown food to serve in school. She would also like to increase the walking school bus to at least two routes that walk daily and work on creating a third route. The group will also stress practicing National Walk To School Day. This year the event falls on Oct. 5 and Babcock is hoping to get more students involved by working with the school.— For more on this story, see the July 26 Tribune
