Trojan boys are out-gunned by Ed-Co, 62-43

Lead Summary

The height and athleticism by two inside players for Edgewood-Colesburg was more than the Turkey Valley boys could handle Tuesday. The Trojans went to 6-2 in the Upper Iowa Conference with a 62-43 loss to the Vikings.    Ed-Co had 10 points on the board before Turkey Valley even scored, by the quarter break the Trojans trailed 18-7.    “We were out of position on defense multiple times and got outplayed before the catch in the post and it led to a quick start for them,” explained coach Chris Sullivan. “We were getting good looks on offense but weren't knocking down shots and they did a good job of keeping us off the boards.”    The two inside players that gave Turkey Valley the most trouble were 6-4 senior Elliott Meyer and 6-5 junior Jacob Wessel. Meyer leads the UIC in rebounding, Wessel is the league’s top shot blocker and is third in rebounds.    That might have something to do with a season-low 19 Trojan rebounds.  More on the story may be found in the Jan. 6 Tribune.
