Trojan girls cruise to easy win in regional

Lead Summary

Dunkerton didn’t stand a chance on Thursday night in Jackson Junction against the Turkey Valley Trojans.
Not if the Raiders from Linn County couldn’t even get the ball past half court.
TV’s suffocating, full-court pressure defense can rattle even the best of teams, so it goes without saying the 9-12 Raiders might encounter some empty trips down the floor in this loser-go-home matchup.
Such was the story on this night in the opening round of Class 1A, Region 3 girls basketball postseason play.
To Dunkerton’s credit, the second quarter went well for the team that plays in the rugged Tri-Rivers West Conference – but that was about it.
Turkey Valley rolled to perhaps it finest defensive performance of the season in a 76-28 lockdown of the Raiders in what was another all-world performance by Trojan senior Ali Hoffert.
“We were all kind of wired up, ready to go. It’s tournament time, so we all tried to turn it up a little bit,” said Hoffert. “Our defense and press was so good. We were all over them and that’s kind of what we were planning to do.”
