Trojan girls pick up split with South Winn

Lead Summary

Emily Busta claimed to be “kinda rusty” at the plate early in the season.
But after the Turkey Valley senior belted her eighth and ninth home runs of the season Monday against South Winn, she admits she’s now pretty confident.
Her first home run of the night came in game one and batted in three runs during a 12-6 win over the Warriors and the second gave the Lady Trojans an early lead in game two, one which the South Winn girls would eventually overtake and go on to win, 10-8.
Busta’s been on the softball team since she was an eighth-grader, as then-coach Mark Scott saw some early promise.
“My first game as an eighth-grader, I hit two home runs,” Busta said. “My parents weren’t even there, because they didn’t know I would be moved up to varsity until the day before the game and they couldn’t get off work.”
Busta, who has taken off every other year for knee injuries, also pitched the win.
