Trojans claim first Upper Iowa Conference title in a dozen years

Lead Summary

Historic, hopeful and heart-stopping.
What a final week of the regular season it was for the Turkey Valley softball team.
Playing in the final contest before regionals start was not without some white-knuckle moments for Junior Hackman’s Trojans.
But his Trojans pulled through and it’s full steam ahead with aspirations of a state tournament berth on the line once postseason play starts this week.
While Trojan eyes are laser-focused on these upcoming make-or-break games, one would be remiss not to look back at a thrilling week filled with memorable moments in T-V softball lore.
The week saw a definite highlight on Tuesday with an Upper Iowa Conference clinching sweep of MFL-Mar-Mac. That wrapped up TV’s first league title since 2008 with a perfect 16-0 mark.
Then things only seemed to get better after the Trojans picked themselves off the ground to stun Waverly-Shell Rock in the regular season finale on Friday evening.
The Go-Hawks (4-10) are coached by Heather Zajicek, who led T-V to its last aforementioned league crown and coached three T-V state tournament qualifying teams (2005, 2006, 2008) that played in Fort Dodge. Zajicek is TV senior centerfielder Jaedyn Winter’s older sister.
The improbable finish to the non-conference tilt that the Trojans won in 4-3 walkoff fashion couldn’t have been scripted any better for TV fans and players in attendance.
