Trojans remain perfect

Lead Summary

As a four-year varsity starter, Turkey Valley's Shelby Reicks probably isn't blindsided often.  But after the Lady Trojans won 55-22 over South Winn Thursday night, the senior had no idea what was coming next as she was honored in between the girls and boys games for scoring her 1,000th career point the previous week.  “I knew a couple days ago I had 1,000 points,” she said a week after hitting the milestone. “But the banners tonight, the balloons and the cake, I didn't know about any of that, that was really awesome.”  The first start for Reicks, in her freshman year, also came against South Winn, late in the season. Since that game Turkey Valley has compiled a record of 61-6, including the 9-0 start this year.  Even though the Warriors came into the game Thursday without a win, they led after first quarter 6-3.  A conventional 3-point play by Kayla Gebel tied the score at six and Reicks hit a pair of free throws with 4:56 left in the half to knot the score 8-8.  What happened next may be found in the Dec. 27 Tribune.
