Turkey Valley advances with win over Ed-Co

Lead Summary

District time can be unpredictable. Turkey Valley pitcher Cale Reicks doesn’t usually get nervous on the mound, but maybe he was in the first inning against Edgewood-Colesburg. He doesn’t usually pitch high and outside, but this time he did.
“I guess we were lucky to get out of that first inning with only one run,” Reicks said after the Trojans advanced with a 4-1 win over the Vikings.
But after that frame, Reicks allowed no more than one baserunner an inning the rest of the game, with the exception of the sixth inning, when, with two away, he issued a walk and was tagged with a single.
After that single, Reicks then had a conference with Turkey Valley catcher Simon Schmitt.
“Simon called ‘fast ball up, fast ball out, curve ball,’” recalled Reicks.
Three pitches, three strikes and the Trojans were out of the inning.
“We have a little telepathy going on, I usually listen to Simon. We have good chemistry and make a good team.”
