Turkey Valley baseball season comes to premature end

Lead Summary

Due to a positive COVID-19 test within the Turkey Valley baseball program, Trojan head baseball coach Dan Stepan announced Friday afternoon that all varsity and junior varsity TV baseball games have been cancelled for the rest of the season.
That cancellation includes Turkey Valley’s scheduled district contest against Kee, Lansing, in Calmar on Saturday. The Class 1A, District 6 game was supposed to be played at 4:30 p.m. MFL-Mar-Mac versus Central City is the other quarterfinal postseason matchup that is still scheduled to be played on the same diamond with a tentative start time of 7 p.m on Saturday.
Turkey Valley (3-14, 3-11) concluded its regular season in a loss at home versus Decorah on Wednesday. The Vikings turned back the Troians, 16-6, in that contest. TV’s game on Thursday versus MFL-Mar-Mac was rained out.
Stepan, in his 18th season as head coach at Turkey Valley, thanked his nine seniors on the squad who played the last game of their prep careers versus Decorah.
“Eli Nymeyer, Elliott Dietzenbach, Sam Kout, Luke Mueller, Kade Kruse, Keegan Balk, Seth Huinker, Dylan Elsbernd, and Kannon Leuenberger have been such an important part of not only our baseball program but of our outstanding senior class at Turkey Valley. They worked hard and received the benefits of that hard work. This tight-knit group has left their mark on Turkey Valley. They will definitely be missed,” Stepan said.
