Turkey Valley breaks out the bats in sweep of Postville

Lead Summary

Turkey Valley not only beat the rain on Wednesday night, the Trojans’ softball team did it in style as they pound out 35 hits and scored 45 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Postville.
The two teams moved the start time of the doubleheader up to 4 p.m. because of the forecast, but the Trojans were obviously ready as they opened the game with seven straight hits.
“Hopefully, we saved a few hits for the next couple of nights,” Turkey Valley coach Junior Hackman said after his team improved to 8-12 with the Upper Iowa Conference sweep.
By the time the first inning of the opener was over, Turkey Valley had banged out 15 hits and plated 20 runs, and pitchers Josie Weber and Kim Fischer combined on a three-inning two-hitter.
Maybe the most remarkable fact about that first inning is this: The Trojans scored 14 of those runs after they had recorded two outs.
Details on the sweep may be found in the June 22 Tribune.
