Turkey Valley girls pick up two victories

Lead Summary

Coach Carla Nymeyer was very proud of her Turkey Valley basketball team after a Thursday night win over Tripoli.
They turned around a quick start by the Panthers — one in which the Trojans trailed 20-11 after a quarter — to win 55-52, then sailed to a win over West Central the next night, 60-22.
“I like the growth we have made since coming off the break,” Nymeyer said after the team went to 8-6 with the pair of wins. “We will need to keep the strive alive as we head into our next few games.”
Halfway through the second period against Tripoli, the Trojans had cut the Panther lead to five, 24-19, then went on an 11-3 run to end the quarter with a 30-27 lead.
“Very proud of the girls for turning around the fast start by Tripoli and capturing the lead going into the half,” Nymeyer said. “Jordan Lukes was a big boost for us in the second period to make that happen.”
Still, the Panthers came back several times to retake the lead. They were up 45-40 with one minute left in the third but when Lukes knocked down a 3-point shot — her third of the night — the score was tied at 45 to start the fourth.
