Turkey Valley rebounds twice to gain UIC splits

Lead Summary

Both of Turkey Valley's recent softball outings — against Starmont Thursday and Clayton Ridge Friday — had something in common.“There's something about a poor game-one loss that gets our bats going in game two,” said coach Haley Kriener after her team turned in their second split in as many nights. Each night the coach was frustrated by the evening's opener, like the 8-6 loss against the Stars and the 7-5 loss to the Eagles. But in both cases the Lady Trojans started the nitecap swinging. They won 14-5 over Starmont in five innings and crushed Clayton Ridge 16-3 in three innings. Both first-game losses had late rallies. Turkey Valley was down 8-2 against the Stars going into the bottom of the sixth, but the Trojans cut the deficit to 8-4 in that frame. Then in the final inning, a lead-off triple by Sadie Nymeyer, a double by Emily Busta and hit by Kayla Schaufenbuel added two more runs, but the rally was cut short.More on the story may be found in the July 5 Tribune.
