Two seniors to lead Lady Trojans

Lead Summary

With seven seniors lost to graduation last year, getting the six freshmen on this year’s Turkey Valley girls’ track squad off on the right foot is crucial.  And that’s where coach Brian Schmitt knows he’ll get help from his two senior leaders.  Shelby Reicks and Sadie Nymeyer, both just off a top-notch basketball season, are the only seniors, but between the two, they bring back a great deal of experience.  Reicks has qualified for state in four events — the maximum number of races an athlete is allowed to compete in — during each of her three high school years. The versatile runner has qualified in seven different events, including last year’s eighth place 4x800-meter relay, the 10th-place 4x400 relay and the distance medley, along with her 10th-place finish in the 1,500-meter run. But she’s also gone to Des Moines in the 3,000, open 400 and open 800.  Nymeyer has also qualified for state all three of her high school years — going in three events each of the past two years. She was also in the 4x4 and 4x8 last year and was 14th in the open 400, running personal records in each of the events at the state meet.  “I think our team strength will come from our two senior leaders that have been out for track all four years,” Schmitt said.
