Usher highlights Chickasaws’ night with win in the 800

Lead Summary

New Hampton girls track coach Jeanette Laures hopes her Chickasaws paid attention to Maddie Usher’s brilliant run in the 800 at Tuesday night’s Waukon Indian Relays.
Taking the lead from the start, Usher held off Crestwood’s Cassidy Ihns by .03 seconds to win the race in a season-best time of 2:31.82.
“Maddie ran with incredible confidence in her 800,” Laures said. “She took the lead from the beginning of that race and never looked back.  She was challenged at the end, but she was able to gut it out.”
