Wanted: Confidence

Lead Summary

“We’ll get there. We will.”    Now if only coach Jack Seelhammer can relay the confidence he has in his girls softball team to the team itself, the Chickasaws will have a good season.    While New Hampton won 12-2 over Dunkerton Tuesday, the coach was more concerned about a Monday 8-4 loss to Waverly-Shell Rock and a 3-1 setback to Charles City Wednesday night.    “We can beat both those teams,” he said. “But it’s the same old story. Waverly, we didn’t hit the ball until late in the game and we have four unearned runs in the first inning.”    The error bug also bit against the Comets, as two of the visitors’ three runs were unearned.    Savannah Anderson both pitched against the Go-Hawks and started a rally in the seventh inning, with the team down8-0, knocking out a single. It was her third time on base, as she doubled and reached on an error.
Details of all three games may be found in the June 9 Tribune.
