Weird but victorious

Lead Summary

New Hampton junior Max Babcock and Chickasaw coach Cory McDonald were on the same page when they were asked about New Hampton’s 8-3 win over Crestwood on Monday.
“It was just one of those weird nights,” McDonald said after his team improved to 18-3 overall and 9-2 in Northeast Iowa Conference play. “We had the phantom lightning delay, we had Max starting and then relieving and it was just a little bizarre at times.”
“I don’t know how to describe it,” said Babcock, who improved to 4-0 as he scattered three hits over four innings. “It’s one of the more weirder games I’ve ever played in, but it worked out so we’ll take it.”
Babcock was untouchable for the first two innings, but McDonald made the decision to pull him so that, if needed, he could pitch in Wednesday’s doubleheader at Waverly-Shell Rock, which ended up being postponed until Monday because of inclement weather.
