Eight area athletes earn trips to Fort Dodge
New Hampton and Nashua-Plainfield will both send three runners to the state cross country meet while Turkey Valley will have two athletes make the trek to Fort Dodge on Saturday, Oct. 30.
The Chickasaws’ Natalie Nosbisch finished 13th in the girls race at the Class 2A state qualifying meet at Dike on Thursday to punch her ticket to Des Moines, and the New Hampton boys brought home two state meet runs as Dylan Usher finished fifth and PJ Anderson took 15th.
The news wasn’t as good for the Chickasaws’ teams as New Hampton finished fourth in the boys team race. Waukon won the meet with 73 points while Oelwein was second, and Jesup edged New Hampton by a single point, 106-107, for the third and final state meet berth.
In the Class 1A meet at Mason City Newman, Nashua-Plainfield’s Kadence Huck took fourth while fellow freshman Amberley Gerholdt was ninth go give the Huskies’ two individual qualifiers in the girls race, and senior Drew Wilken broke through for a seventh-place finish to secure his first trip to the state meet.
Turkey Valley’s Jalyssa Blazek won the individual race at a 1A meet in Guttenberg and will be joined by teammate Cambree Kruse, the senior who missed last year’s state meet by just once place but punched her ticket to Fort Dodge with an eighth-place finish Thursday.
