Trojans advance with little trouble

Win over Springville 54-14 to advance in state tourney

Springville scored on the second play of the game Friday when the Orioles and Trojans met at Turkey Valley in the first round of playoff action.

The 51-yard pass play put the Orioles up 6-0, but the next time Springville scored, there were 17 seconds left in the contest, and meanwhile, the Trojans had put 54 unanswered points on the board.

Marcus Herold scored five times — on three short touchdown runs, a 59-yard pass play from quarterback Noah Hanson and a 46-yard run, with Hanson adding touchdowns on a punt return and 1-yard run and Dylan Reicks a 23-yard touchdown run.

Calvin Bodensteiner intercepted Springville, twice.

"That feels huge, especially happening in the playoffs," said Bodensteiner. "We knew going in they were going to throw a lot, but never would I have imagined getting two picks."

Turkey Valley will have another home game coming up Friday, as the 9-0 Trojans take on 8-1 Kee High.
